5Sorry Miss Starbucks, Signorina Saeco has stolen my heart...
By Red Legs Fan
This is the one to buy. It makes great tasting espressos, coffee, cappuccinos, and lattes with enough variables so you can customize the drink to your own taste. Yes, it is expensive, but quality costs money (many retailers sell this model around $2K. Hint: find a few sites with good prices then search for big discount coupons that will take 25% or more off). I calculated how much we were spending on Starbucks per year, plus the amount of "last of the pot" drip coffee that we were pouring down the drain, and concluded that a superautomatic would save us money in the long run. After doing a lot of research, I decided on the Exprelia Evo. It is an improved version (the Evo stands for Evolution) of the previous model. On the old version and a lot of other superautomatics, people complain that the milk and/or coffee is not hot enough. That is not a problem with this one - the default setting is plenty hot for me, and you can set it even higher via the menu. The Evo makes beautiful foam for cappuccinos/lattes and you can keep the milk carafe in your fridge when not in use. You cannot adjust the amount of foam, but you can adjust the quantity of milk. I like the fact that the milk circuit is cleaned after every use - just move the frother back to the home position. The coffee circuit is also auto-cleaning when the machine starts up or powers down. The front dial allows you to change the amount of crema on top of your coffee for more or less intense flavor. You can configure the buttons (espresso, coffee, long coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and specialty drink) to make the beverage how you like it. Superautomatics are very complex machines that need to be cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure long life. Saeco makes this a little easier than competing models with the removable brew group and good instructional prompts. However, you still need to establish a good cleaning routine if you want your investment to last. I can't stress this enough - read the manual and use quality coffee (oily, over-roasted beans are not good and will cause nasty buildup in your machine like tooth plaque). The manual can be downloaded from the Saeco web site if you want info on the cleaning regimen before you purchase. If you are not willing to make the cleaning commitment, don't buy this machine or any other superautomatic. Regular cleaning and descaling are a requirement of the 1-year warranty terms and conditions. BTW, Saeco will give you an additional 4 years on the brew group component if you register the machine on their web site. If I could improve the machine, I would like more water, drip, and dump tray capacity - but if they did that, I think it would have to be the same size as the Saeco Royal One Touch. All things considered, I think they struck a good compromise between compact footprint and capacity.Update 1-Jan-14: So I have owned this machine for 6 weeks. We love it! I was a bit concerned when my wife and I drank about 2 lbs. of Illy during the first week, but we have settled back into a more normal pattern (around 4-10 espresso shots per day total). For people that are curious, I measured the coffee and milk temperatures with a Thermoworks RT600C temperature probe, right where the liquid exits the machine. We have changed the coffee temperature parameter to the "High" setting because my wife has some travel mugs that are not insulated very well (I should mention that you can remove the dual spout to fit a small travel mug under the coffee dispenser). The coffee measured an average of 175F/80C at the spout, going a little higher and lower (probably depending on the probe's position - hey, I'm not a scientist). On the milk, we keep the carafe in the refrigerator. Going straight from a 34F/1C fridge to machine, the milk is dispensed at an average of 125F/52C. If you want it even hotter, the nice thing about this machine is that you have the steam wand available to do that. I should also mention that the steam wand is handy to dispense on-demand hot water for tea, oatmeal, etc. BTW, the milk will also be hotter if it starts from a warmer temperature. You have to remember that this machine was designed in Europe where "normal" milk is UHT shelf-stable that comes in a box at room temperature (you can find UHT milk on Amazon or at many grocery stores in the organic section). When Europeans do chill their milk, they don't tend to set their refrigerator as low as we do in the US. On cleaning: I spend about 20-30 minutes once a week, usually Sunday night, where I wash the brew group, drip trays, water reservoir, carafe, etc. by hand. It is very easy. I use a vacuum cleaner to suck out any loose ground coffee, wipe down the inside with a hot washcloth/paper towel and that's it. Pretty painless. The monthly maintenance - descaling, milk circuit cleaning, coffee oil removal, takes about double the weekly cleaning time. I bought the Saeco maintenance kit, but it did not include the milk circuit cleaner or coffee oil remover. You have to buy that separately (I chose Urnex brand which was recommended by several people). On coffee beans: as I have mentioned, you need to avoid using oily beans for best results. We have tried several different brands and the Italian brands seem to be the best, which I guess is not too surprising for an Italian machine. A good bang for the buck is Lavazza Crema e Aroma - Amazon sells a 2.2lb (1kg) bag for a little over $20 with the subscribe 'n save option. This is way better than $14-$15 for an 8.8oz can of Illy beans at the local grocery store.

5It worth the price
By celik
I've tried some other Automatic and one semi automatic espresso machine, they was aroun 400-900$ mostly, this one was 2000$, I worried about wasting 2k on something I might not like, so I did a lot of research on this one, I red a lot of reviews about it and I saw some videos of people using it and I don't know why, I decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did so, from the day I bought it, I use it at least 2 times a day, I can't explain how easy it is. Cleaning, matter of 20 second, you open it, wash two small piece of it with water, put it back, that's all. For coffee tray, I already filled it with coffee beans which I think will work for at least 15 days, tray is so tight, so you don't have to worry about lose of taste/smell of coffee beans. Only think you have to do is, pour fresh water, press 1 button and wait. It automatically put itself to sleep, by touch of a button runs again. Everytime you want to use it (after not using it for a while) it rinses whole system automatically.Long story short, for all people who've said TL;DR: It's really amazing! 120% recommended, you'll love it. IMHO it worth every penny.
