3OK, but expensive for what it is

I must have read the description incorrectly, because I thought this would heat water to a set temperature for different things, such as green tea or hot cocoa. Wrong. It heats until the water boils, and it's difficult to tell when that happens unless you wait until the kettle turns itself off. The minimum amount of water one can heat is a pretty large amount - enough for a large mug. So, if you want to heat a smaller amount than that, you won't be able to do that in this kettle. It is pretty to look at, but it is heavy and the water gauge on the outside is difficult to see. It might not be a big deal for the younger set, but if you have weak wrists, arthritis, or just can't lift heavy objects very well, it could be a problem. Perhaps younger folks would be able to see the water level better, but it is so small and since the glass is somewhat tinted, that I think most people will have difficulty reading it.The stainless steel interior is nice, and it doesn't drip when pouring. However, the opening is not very large, and you have to pour carefully when you are filling ti with water. The swivel base is nice, but many products have that now. Some people might appreciate the adjustable cord length, but I don't have a need for a longer cord on counter top appliances, so it didn't really affect my assessment of this product.I was disappointed in this item. It is very expensive for being a fancy hot pot.

3Form Wins Out Over Function a little too much in Uber-Stylish yet Surprisingly Basic Kettle
By bbfla
This kettle represents a "nice try" by Panasonic. I applaud its audacious design -- two words rarely heard in the same sentence as the word "kettle."The unit is visually striking, eschewing the curvilinear forms of most kettles in favor of a rectangle with rounded edges. If you are attracted by the design, you will probably look next at the price tag and be instantly repulsed.Let's get this out of the way: this kettle is absurdly and obscenely overpriced. The only reason I bought one was that I was able to get it at a very deep discount: even at half-off retail, it is still overpriced. That said, I find it to be an attractive, seemingly-sturdy appliance, albeit with very few of the bells and whistles commonly found even on inexpensive kettles.PROS:- Unusual angular design- Relatively quiet operation- Sides remain (mostly) cool to the touch during operation, so no more burned fingersCONS:- The handle is made of cheap hollow plastic painted silver to (kind of) match the stainless on the rest of the kettle; this is the one part of the kettle that you will touch more than any other, yet Panasonic cheaped out on it. This undoubtedly helped shave a little weight, but it is a fail from a tactile standpoint.- Cheesy plastic spout- The power switch on top of the handle is small and poorly-designed, with poor tactile feedback and no integrated power light. Rather than placing the "on" portion of the rocker switch where the thumb naturally falls, so you can press it down in one smooth motion, you have to push forward on the rocker to activate the kettle. It seems, to me at least, the reverse of the way the switch should intuitively work, but YMMV. That said, I have noticed that it is easy to inadvertently nudge the power switch into a position other than that which you intended when handling the kettle, because it doesn't lock firmly into place.- The blue power light beneath the (barely-legible) fill gauge window on one side of the kettle is dim and difficult to see. Why put the power light on one side when a selling point constantly mentioned in Panasonic's ad copy is that the kettle can be swiveled in any orientation on the base? The power light should be on top of the kettle, where it would be visible no matter how the kettle is oriented!- There is no 'keep warm' function -- a nice basic convenience available on many kettles that sell for 1/8 the price -- or any other functions, for that matter.- Panasonic's description of the materials used in the kettle is misleading. Its ad copy describes it as having a "Brilliant Smoke Transparent Glass and Stainless Steel finish." There is no glass anywhere in this kettle: the sides are made of plastic with a smokey finish that might look kind of glassy to an advertising copywriter. There's a difference, Panasonic. It may sound like I don't like the kettle, based on the long list of negatives I have enumerated. That's not entirely true: I like it more than many of the kettles I've owned.I still can't help being slightly annoyed by the niggling failures of the odd design choices listed above. It feels like this item could have benefited from a little more refinement before coming to market, especially given its stratospheric price.

5I paid too much, but love it.

So much of this kettle is preference.Negative first: price. OMG price! Did I just spend that?I hate the forced pause between heating multiple pots. Honestly? This isn't a huge deal 9 times out of 10 that I use it. But when I want to steep the really big pot of tea? Oh, bother!Positives. Or: why I'm not going to sweat the price and the slight botheration. It's purple. I know that's shallow, but it caught my eye. It makes me smile. Good enough. I mean, why not appreciate whimsy when you see it.It's blocky. I like that. It's nonsensical, but I like it.Quiet.Wide mouth, easy fill. *Easy clean!*Cordless pot on a swivel stand.Exterior fill line (but also an embossed interior "max" line)But (crucially important for me): ***exterior temp well below burning!*** I am the person who will accidentally grab the pot, not the handle. That right there? Worth it.
